LOS SANTOS POLICE DEPARTMENT
Civilian Dispatch Division
What is a Police Dispatcher?
A Police Dispatcher is a civilian position within the Los Santos Police Department. Dispatchers are not sworn police officers and do not perform law enforcement duties such as making arrests or patrolling the streets. Instead, they play a vital role in the communication and coordination between the public and police units.Primary Responsibilities:
• Receiving emergency and non-emergency calls
• Collecting critical information from callers
• Dispatching appropriate police units to incidents
• Monitoring unit status and ensuring officer safety
• Using radio systems and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) tools
Key Differences from Police Officers:
• Dispatchers do not carry weapons or wear uniforms
• They work from the Communications Center (not in the field)
• Focus is on communication, coordination, and support, not enforcement
• They are civilians, not law enforcement personnel
Police Dispatchers are essential in ensuring efficient and effective emergency response. Without them, officers in the field would not receive timely information or support in critical situations.
If you are interested in public safety but prefer a non-combat, communication-based role, then becoming a dispatcher may be the right path for you.
Sincerely,
Police Officer III
